The USGenWeb Project



Holt County was created by an act of the Nebraska Territory Legislature in 1876. It was named for Joseph Holt, who was the Postmaster General and Secretary Of War under James Buchanan. The county seat is O'Neill. Holt County is located in northeastern Nebraska. It's neighbors are Boyd County to the north, Knox County to the northeast, Antelope County to the east, Wheeler County to the southeast, Garfield County to the southwest, Loup County to the west-southwest, Rock County to the west, and Keya Paha County to the northwest.
