GARRETT LONG

Mon, 30 Mar 2009 17:37:52 -0600 [03/30/2009 06:37:52 PM CDT]

Hello, My ancestor is Henry M. Garrett who lived in Pawnee, Co about 1882-1888. He apparently lost his farm to a disagreement with another farmer over whose land was whose. If you have any information I would love it. We think his two oldest sons met their future wives there. One was my ggrandfather named Edward Garrett his wife Mae Long

MACKEY

Mon, 29 Jun 1998 10:05:13 EDT

James W . MACKEY moved to Pawnee City/Superior Ne. With his children about 1886. His wife Jenny or Jane MACKEY had either just died or died soon after. I belive she died before the move. James had 4 children with him, William, Fannie (my ggrandmother), Charles, and Thomas Roscoe. His brother T. M. MACKEY ( I have no name at this time) was either already there or they all came together. The brother was a photographer, I have pictures taken by him at the Mackey Studio in Superior, but have always been told they also had a studio in Pawnee City. I do not know which is correct. T. M. MACKEY had a 50th wedding Ann in the middle 20's. Fannie Mackey married my Grandfather Bert WILLIAMSON in Pawnee City on Nov. 1 1897.

Any help you can give me would certainly be appreciated.

Thank you again.

Her parents were William Adams BD: 1827 Died in 1879 Near Prosser Nebraska maybe Pawnee City. Her mother was Mary Keller B:1840 Pawnee City or Guide Rock Nebraska died in 1900 I think.

FRY HOLLINGSWORTH MANNING MANRY PORTERFIELD

Sat, 28 Mar 2009 11:15:55 -0700 [03/28/2009 01:15:55 PM CDT]

My great, great, grandparents settled in your county on land that is said to make up the town of Pawnee City. Their names were Joseph Henry and Elizabeth Ellen (Manning) Fry. They came out from Fort Seneca, Ohio and settled there in the mid 1850s. It is said a relative was in the survey party that surveyed that area and told them about the area. Manning? Sager? not sure.Have been to Pawnee City but did not find courthouse open--too late arrival. They may have moved to a small town west before moving to Clay County, Kansas.

What do you know about them? I have the family geneology of the Fry family but no records of them in Pawnee City. My Great grandmother was about 5 when they came, she born in 1852 and died in 1954 at 102 years in Pomona, CA. Her first son Frank was my grandfather. He was born in Pawnee City as was 2 brothers. She was married to Tom Porterfield of Holton, Kansas. He abandoned the family when Frank was about 8 yrs. old. Her second marriage was the John Manry of Beatrice. He soon died of TB and then she worked as telegrapher in Axtel ,Kansas. Through this experienced she married a Decatur Loomis Hollingsworth who was a railroad station agent for the same railraod she worked for. She adopted all the children as Hollingsworth, hence my name is Hollingsworth not Porterfield.

Hope to hear from you.

Chuck Hollingsworth, Fresno, CA

Peter was a blacksmith and wagonmaker in Pawnee City from about 1880. Peter died in 1933, Minnie died in 1952. All of the above named are buried in the Pawnee City Cemetery. Thanks!

SCHROEDER SCHULTZ RUSCH VOELZ VOLZ

Thu 10/19/2006 11:52 PM

Looking for information about SCHROEDER and SCHULTZ families (originally from Hannover, Germany) who had lived in Will and Kankakee counties, Illinois, before moving to Pawnee county.

RUSCH and VO(E)LZ immigrated in 1878 from Pomerania, and lived in Johnson and Pawnee Counties. I'd love to share info with anyone connected to these families. Some associated surnames are GETZ, HOFFMAN, KATZ, BROCKMEYER, and WAGNER.

PANGBURN SULLIVAN

Tue, 17 Jun 2008 23:14:36 -0500 [06/17/2008 11:14:36 PM CDT]

I am a descendant of Isaiah Sullivan, who along with his brother Uriah, and brother-in-law Garrett Pangburnm, were among the first white settlers of Pawnee City in the late 1850s. Isaiah lived in Pawnee City for a few decades before moving on sometime after the 1870 census; between 1880 and 1900 he was living in Holton, Kansas.

I am wondering whether there are any old family graves in the Pawnee City area. In 1870, Isaiah was living with his mother, Margaret Sullivan, who was 72 years old. She must have died in Pawnee City before Isaiah moved to Kansas.

Wondering if you have any information about the old cemeteries in the area and whether there are any transcriptions available.

Thanks,
Lois Huneycutt

WILSEY

I think you will find a number of Wilsey family members in Pawnee County (as per 1880 census and 1900 census). There were also a number of Wilseys in Seward County, but I am not sure they were related. My mother was from Milford and was a Wilsey.
