John Booze

Believed to be written by Frank Doyle

John Booze will walk this earth no more,
He lived to be almost five score,
He milked cows and tilled the land,
He was always ready with a helping hand.

He plowed the sod and planted corn,
It was here that most of his family was born,
He raised his pigs, when they got fat,
He hauled them to old North Platte.

He had to take what they would give,
It wasn't much, they had to live,
He bought the things he needed most,
The biggest bill was wire and post.

He built his house and set out trees,
Planted the garden to potatoes and peas,
He and his wife, they laid thier plans,
And built the house that now still stands.

The children left home one by one,
At first they thought it would be fun,
But when the last one finally left,
They were lonely and berift.

The wife finally passed away,
The father left the home to stay,
He traveled, to enjoy life,
And finally married another wife.

They lived several happy years,
But now this wife is left in tears,
Old John is gone to a better land,
So bear your grief as best you can.
They are gone and there is no use to make a fuss,
For they are better off, then the rest of us.
