GARFIELD
April 21, 1935 T.M. Johnson Claimed by Death
Friends and neighbors were saddened Easter Sunday Morning when word was spread over the community that T. M. Johnson one of the oldest and most respected citizens, had passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fay S. Long of Arnold, at five o'clock in the morning.
The day dawned beautifully, the vaulted heavens reflecting a spirit of welcome and rest to one whose earthly labors well performed had entered upon eternal rest.
Relatives and friends who cherished dearly the memory of a loving and tender friend, gathered in large numbers at the Garfield Church to pay their tribute of respect.   “We Are Going Down To The Valley,” ”There’s No Disappointment In Heaven” and “The Eastern Gate” was rendered by a quartette, the personell including Mrs. Walter Rockwell, Mrs. Ray Rickets and Harry Goodenow of Garfield and Harry Murphy of Gandy. The prayer and sermon were given by Rev. Chas L. Carpenter, pastor of the Gandy-Garfield Charge.  He also read the obituary and gave a brief talk to the grieving relatives.
The pallbearers, friends, of the family were A.L. Auble, L.H. Joy, Luther Claudson, Harry Goodenow, Mark Smith and Amos Alexander. The floral offerings were very beautiful, speaking the silent message of deepest affection.
Following the services at the church, the cortege consisting of nearly sixty automobiles, wended its way to the Garfield Cemetery where after a brief commital service, all that was mortal of Thomas M. Johnson was laid to rest by the side of his wife who is sleeping there.  The obituary will be found elsewhere in this issue.
