LAST STORE AT GANDY IS SOLD (pg 90)

Howard Walsh of Brownlee, Nebr. purchased the complete stock of merchandise,
consisting of groceries, drygoods, and hardware, of the Gandy Store from
 Mrs. Fawn Phiipot on Monday.

Walsh, a rural mail carrier and hotel operator at Brownlee, plans to start a
general store in the large ground floor building of his hotel. With this
transaction, Gandy no longer has a separate store, the first time in
 nearly seventy-five years.

In its heyday, Gandy boasted three grocery stores a meat market, two banks,
three hotels, a newspaper, the postoffice, and 3 blacksmith shops.
