EARLY DIXON CO. SHERIFF IS DEAD. 

Mace B. DeWitt, third elected sheriff of Dixon County and a pioneer of northeast Nebraska died at his home in Ponca last week at the age of 90 years. 

Mr. DeWitt who was probably one of the oldest residents in Dixon County went there from Ohio in 1866 and was elected sheriff of the county the following year, which office he held for five terms. 

Mr. DeWitt was sheriff in 1870 at the time of the Mat Miller hanging. He also served on the early board of supervisors for five years. 

Mr. DeWitt is survived by four children. The children are: Roy and George DeWitt of Ponca; Mrs. Roland Hill of Porter; and Walter of Galahad, Canada.
