PLEASANT VALLEY CEMETERY

Pleasant Valley Cemetery

Pleasant Valley Cemetery is located on section 18 of Loup Township.
Take Hwy. 10 north from Pleasanton for 3 1/2 miles to 355th Rd. Turn west
and go 4 1/2 miles. The cemetery is on a hill on the south side of the road.

A written deed was filed July 20, 1889, transferring five acres in the southwest corner of
Section 18 of Loup twp from John Pearson to the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Association,
according to a notice printed in the Kearney Hub July 22, 1889.

The Pleasant Valley Cemetery Association met June 9, 1900 in the School house and
elected a board of 5 trustees. They set up laws and made plans to survey - or re-survey
land given by Henry Lammers. Section 18 Loup Township, Buffalo County Nebr.

There were graves there prior to 1900. The first marked and dated stone, to my
knowledge was Agusta Swenson 1883. There are several more marked graves dated
from 1883 to 1900. Also several unknown graves found during the 1900 survey.

The records available start with the above meeting but there are mention of
annual meetings prior to those records.

A special meeting was called in 1917 and it was voted to build a non-sectarian Church which
was built at the north side of said cemetery and they voted to call it the Pleasant Valley
Cemetery and church association. The money being donated by people of the community.

The Church stood until 1963 and was sold to Evangelical Wesleyan Church, Ansley, Nebr.
The money to be put in a trust fund and the interest to be used to help maintain
this cemetery. There was mention of a potters field surveyed in the southeast corner.
