Garfield Cemetery

When the Cemetery was first established it was called the Lessig cemetery, because several of the Lessig family were buried there. Then as more homesteaders and neighbors died, they opened the cemetery to others. The Garfield Association was formed and they purchased 3 acres from the State of Nebraska school land in March 1890. The land was legally deeded on 03-28-1908 to the Garfield Association and became known as the Garfield Cemetery. Later when the Highland Grove church was established, which was located 2-2 1/2 (?)miles to the west of the Cemetery, it also was called the Highland Grove Cemetery by some community members. The legal name is Garfield Cemetery. It is Located 10 miles north of Ainsworth on Old Hiway #7.
